An opium-addicted ronin is hired by his old friend to protect a little girl in the unforgiving Orient City, a vertical tangle of rock and skyscrapers interconnected with waterways and cable cars. Although reluctant at first, the girl's belief in him to teach her the ways of the samurai lead him to recover from his addiction. When her family is assassinated by ninjas, the ronin must get revenge on the man responsible.
