Manuel es un simpático taxista de Buenos Aires que ayuda en sus comienzos a un famoso torero español apodado "El Cartujano". Éste viaja a España para casarse con una joven sevillana, rica y guapa, y Manuel le acompaña en el viaje, en calidad de administrador. Durante la travesía muere "El Cartujano" aquejado de una terrible enfermedad, y antes de morir le hace prometer a su amigo Manuel que consuele a Soledad, su prometida. Pero al llegar a Sevilla es confundido con el torero.
