Nan Rutledge, a high-spirited girl, spends most of her time staging moonlight dances at her father's country home and provoking men into falling in love with her. When her father orders her to pick a husband and settle down, she selects at random wealthy woman-hater Anthony Griswold. When he finally proposes, she accepts, then changes her mind in front of guests. But he abducts her, takes her to his mountain cabin, and sends for the parson.
