Gabriela è una dinamica signora borghese, separata dal marito architetto e scenografo, madre di due figli. Ha un fascinoso amante giapponese e gestisce una galleria d'arte contemporanea. Da circa un anno riceve, con intermittenza capricciosa ma costante, dei misteriosi messaggi. Durante una festa in costume conosce il suo "persecutore". L'enigma sembra a prima vista risolversi, ma in realtà si infittisce ancor di più.
