El 1 de enero de 1994 estalla en Chiapas una revuelta encabezada por el Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional. Un realizador español recoge el dolor de la población indígena. Seis años después pretende ir más allá y visitar a los refugiados y a los guerrilleros. Sin embargo, el cerco del silencio está protegido por más de sesenta mil soldados que impiden acceder hasta las comunidades indígenas.
