Un professeur et sa femme, accueillent chez eux en Suisse une jeune américaine, Belle. Mais un soir, Belle est assassinée dans sa chambre, et le professeur est accusé du crime. Seul un policer croit en son innocence. Après sa libération, il court les rues de Genève.
