At a crowded out-of-the-way bar, the mildly inebriated second mate, Manos Saris, gives a fellow seaman his word that as soon as they arrive at Piraeus, he will get married to his sister, Maro, even though he hasn't met her before. However, when Manos sobers up, decides that it is best to send the jovial midshipman, Simos Papafigos, to meet with his mysterious bride and get him off the hook, unbeknownst to him that the ship's watchful but soft-hearted boatswain, Fourtounas, already suspects that they are up to something. Manos is convinced that Maro is utterly unattractive; nevertheless, what happens if the unknown wife-to-be is truly ravishing instead? —Nick Riganas
