Die Apis-Stiere wurden im Alten Ägypten als heilige Tiere verehrt und in den Katakomben von Sakkara bestattet. 1851 entdeckte der französische Ägyptologe Auguste Mariette das unterirdische Heiligtum. Unter seiner Leitung wurden Dutzende Objekte des Grabschatzes zu Tage gefördert. Der Dokumentarfilm geht erstmals dem geheimnisvollen Stier-Kult der Pharaonenzeit auf den Grund.
