A fierce, long-standing feud divides two neighbouring villages, mountainous Panochori, which has abundant water but not an inch of arable land, and the fertile but waterless, Katochori, that quarrel over the control of the mountain springs. To further complicate matters, the proud young agronomist from Panochori, Pluto, threatens to divert the river, and before long, he locks horns with the affluent landlady from Katochori, Dimitra, who intends to build a fruit and vegetable canning factory. In vain, the local field guard, Zeus, tries to be the voice of reason; however, when Pluto falls in love with Persephone, Dimitra's beautiful daughter, a bold plan in the name of love threatens the already fragile peace of the land. Can the two young lovers help usher in the much-awaited change? —Nick Riganas
