"Honesty is the best policy" is the lesson which little Malcom's mother taught him when he innocently committed a theft. Malcom's little heart aches for his mother when he sees her sick and penniless; he longs to do something to help her. He prays fervently that God may give him this opportunity. Sunday morning he goes out upon the street to beg; everybody ignores him. He passes a church and follows the people, who are entering. He is carried away with the grandeur and solemnity of the place, and when the warden is passing the collection plate, the little boy thinks when he sees the money on it that it is a direct answer to his prayer. Instead of contributing, be helps himself to a bright, shining silver piece. Overjoyed, he runs home to his mother. When he tells her how he got it, she points out his mistake and tells him he has innocently committed a theft and makes him take the money back to the church, which he finds closed
