Martha, jeune écrivain, a du mal à vivre la relation amoureuse forte, pleine et belle qu'elle aimerait avoir avec Paul, son ami psychiatre. Divorcée très jeune, elle vit seule avec son enfant. Paul a déménagé à Paris et voulait qu'elle vienne vivre avec lui. Martha, elle, a peur de perdre son indépendance. Elle commence à écrire et s'immerge et se projette dans les rôles de ses nouvelles.
