影片讲述一群热血方刚、风华正茂的青年投身到革命事业，为自由和民主不惜抛头颅洒热血，谱写辛亥革命时期黄花岗72烈士的英雄壮歌。在广州起义事件中，有两位岭南画派大家名留青史，一位是岭南画派领军人物高剑父（廖启智 饰），为筹取武器立下大功，另一位画坛宗师潘达微（谢君豪 饰），则在起义失败后冒死收殓烈士遗骨，埋骨之所也由红花岗改称为彰显节烈的黄花岗的感人故事。
