The summer high school baseball games in Japan is a longstanding nationwide event in Japan. The people who cheer the hero players from the stands are their fellow classmates who never made it on to the glamorous stadium grounds and have slightly given up on their dreams. The setting of this film is in the stadium stands where four boys and girls discuss their feelings. A seemingly ordinary and yet tender story of youth arises out of this unique film.
A film adaptation of a classic high school play by Hideo Jōjō—one of the most prolific directors working today. The film was a smash hit in Japan and was labeled as the birth of a new masterpiece in coming-of-age drama.
