Popeye the Sailor is a fictional cartoon character created by Elzie Crisler Segar.
Follows the adventures of the famed spinach-eating sailor man. Popeye started out as a character in the daily comic strip "Thimble Theatre" in 1929. In the early 30s, Max and Dave Fleischer made him the star of his own cartoon. Bluto, Popeye's rival, will do anything it takes to get Olive Oyl, Popeye's girlfriend. Popeye is always willing to get her out of trouble.
Follows the adventures of the famed spinach-eating sailor man. Popeye is one of the most popular cartoon characters of all time. This spunky but loveable spinach-eating sailor continues to delight young and old with his comic adventures, and the entire gang is around to provide plenty of rousing fun and action: Olive Oyl, Swee'Pea, Wimpy and Bluto.
When Popeye forgets to send Olive Oyl a valentine, she takes a Valentine's Day Sweetheart Cruise, convinced that she'll find her "Mr. Right" there.
Buff sailor man Popeye arrives in an awkward seaside town called Sweethaven. There he meets Wimpy, a hamburger-loving man; Olive Oyl, the soon-to-be love of his life; and Bluto, a huge, mean pirate who is out to make Sweethaven pay for no good reason. Popeye also discovers his long-lost Pappy in the middle of it all, so with a band of his new friends, Popeye heads off to stop Bluto, and he's got the power of spinach, which Popeye detests, to bust Bluto right in the mush. Watch as Popeye mops the floor with punks in a burger joint, stops a greedy taxman, takes down a champion boxer, and even finds abandoned baby Swee'pea. He's strong to the finish 'cause he eats his spinach.
Popeye and Olive are now married, and they have a son, Popeye Jr. Bluto is also married- to a woman named Lizzie- and he also has a son, Tank. The kids are just like their father... except Popeye Jr. hates spinach. Wimpy has a nephew, Francis.
Popeye is on a quest to find his missing father Poopdeck Pappy. Popeye is dogged by nightmares warning him that his Pappy, who abandoned him as a child, is in danger and needs him, so he bravely sets out on the open sea to find his long-lost father and reunite with him for the Christmas holidays. Accompanied by the admiring Olive Oyl, the brawny Bluto, the hungry J. Wellington Wimpy, and little Swee'Pea, he heads for the Sea of Mystery, which happens to be in the evil Sea Hag's domain. Strange things begin to happen along the way, as the group encounters sirens, serpents, and menacing mists. This was clearly all of the Sea Hag's attempts to destroy Popeye for good.
Popeye the sailor man is back, but his rooftop spinach garden is in danger. With some help from his best pal Olive Oyl, his furry friend Eugene the Jeep and of course a trusty can of spinach, he must stop Bluto from getting his hands on his prized leafy greens.
