Robot combat game shows
Robot Wars is a British game show modelled on a US-based competition of the same name. Teams of amateur and professional roboteers make their own robots to fight against each other in both friendly and tournament matches.
Remote-controlled, armored and weaponized machines called BattleBots figth to the death in an arena called the BattleBox. The purpose of the fight is for one robot, or "bot", to dominate or disable the other.
3 2 1 Activate! What began as a British series is now in the United States on "America's Fastest Growing Network," the New TNN and around the world. Each episode six robots fight it out and a series of battles, with only one emerging as the winner for that episode. These champions move on to the season finale, the Robot Wars: Extreme Warriors US Championships. TNN, which is becoming SpikeTV, has chosen not to renew Robot Wars: Extreme Warriors, as it moves towards its new demographic. The series itself was actually shot in England and therefore was not truly a U.S. series.
BattleBots promises to wow viewers with next generation robots—bigger, faster and stronger than ever before. The show will focus on the design and build of each robot, the bot builder backstories, their intense pursuit of the championship and the spectacle of the event.
Legends like Tombstone, Bronco, Witch Doctor, Son of Whyachi, Beta and Icewave will all be making their return to the screen as they take on challengers, who are competing with each other for the right to become the bounty hunter and fight a legend for ultimate victory. Like any season of BattleBots, Bounty Hunters will still give inside looks at the teams behind the bots and their build process, showing that everyone from families to university students and everything in between can become champions.
Get ready for a reinvention of gladiatorial combat for the 21st century! Each week, "Robot Combat League" will feature tournament-style battles between eight-feet tall, state-of-the-art humanoid robots controlled by human "robo-jockeys". Hosting the series is Chris Jericho, the wildly popular WWE wrestler and multifaceted performer. The idea of robots in battle has captured the imagination for generations. Now, through ground-breaking engineering, the fusion of a human's fighting spirit with a powerful robotic machine built for destruction has become a reality. This extraordinary new series will feature twelve teams consisting of a fighter (a "robo-jockey") and a robotics engineer (a "robo-tech") from myriad backgrounds including a race car driver, an Olympic athlete, a National Guard helicopter pilot along with a mix of professional fighters and software engineers. Each team is paired with its own unique robot and will fight in a first-of-its kind competition using a high-tech exo-suit that translates their movements to their robot. Each fight consists of three rounds of intense action, with the winning team advancing in the competition. The robots of the "Robot Combat League" were designed and created by robotics expert Mark Setrakian, a leader in the sport of robotic combat. In his distinguished career, Setrakian has developed life-saving robotic systems, and pioneered cutting-edge creature effects, animatronics and control technology for such films as Men In Black, The Grinch and Hellboy.
