On the eve of the war, border guard Lieutenant Ivan Burov arrives from a short vacation to continue his service on the border of the USSR and Poland. After the attack of the German troops, the Boer is the only one who remains alive on the part of the state border entrusted to him. Meanwhile, the enemy had already advanced far to the East. When he learns that the invaders are managing the village where Hanna — Burov's beloved-lives, he decides to wage his own war with the invaders. Alone, among swamps and forests, in hot and cold, without sleep or rest, the Boer becomes a serious threat to the fascists, a kind of "spirit of vengeance" — for the lost comrades, for the right to love taken away...
