Lorne Michaels returned to television with this variety program. Produced, written, and starring most of the people Michaels worked with on "Saturday Night Live," it was criticized for not having a particular direction or style. Most of the people that worked on "The New Show" ended up returning to "SNL" when Michaels became Executive Producer again in 1985.
