Sylvana a young business woman in 2015 is refurbishing an old bar inside Valletta's famous Strait Street. During the renovations an old journal belonging to a young woman (Lydia) is found. Lydia's struggles unravel as we are transported back to 1957 thanks to her journal, when she is forced to leave her gilded cage and controlling mother in search of a better life with her love, leaving a life of luxury behind for the freedom she yearns for. However when she finds herself stranded and abandoned in Valletta she befriends Lilly, a bubbly young barmaid who works and lives in the infamous street, who takes her in in return of reading and writing lessons. Strait Street is shown in its former glory where prostitution and murders are just one side of the story. We meet many other personalities, real or fictitious who take us back to this cultural and musical mecca.
