Por. Rabb a por. Austinová vyšetřují nehodu při ostrých střelbách u dělostřeleckého praporu. Zde při určování cílových souřadnic jeden z naváděcích důstojníků zaměnil údaje. Střely tudíž explodovaly v jiném místě, než byl cíl. V místě dopadu se nacházela pěchotní jednotka. Její členové byli vážně zraněni. Při vyšetřování se zjistí, že odpovědný poručík byl zřejmě opilý. Rabb a Austinová se při vyšetřování musí potýkat s neochotou a jak později zjistí i s falšováním důkazů. Por. Austinová však naštěstí přijde na způsob jak odhalit pravdu.
