Die Reality–Doku „Ghost Hunters“ (USA, ab 2004) zeigt echte Geisterjäger bei ihrer spannenden und oft nervenaufreibenden Arbeit. Jason Hawes und Grant Wilson – tagsüber Klempner, nachts Geisterjäger – gründeten 2004 „The Atlantic Paranormal Society“, kurz TAPS, eine Gruppe von Hobby–Forschern, die alle „nebenberuflich“ auf der Spur paranormaler Ereignisse sind. Das Team besteht neben Jason und Grant aus Managern, Fabrikarbeitern, Lehrern oder Telefon–Seelsorgern. Was sie alle verbindet, ist das Interesse an paranormalen Phänomenen und der Wunsch, diese plausibel zu erklären. Gemeinsam reisen die Geisterjäger durchs Land und versuchen, eigentlich unerklärlichen Phänomenen auf den Grund zu gehen. Dabei scheuen sie keine Mühen und Kosten. Ihre Ausrüstung finanzieren sie aus der eigenen Kasse, und die Geisterjagd lassen sie sich nicht bezahlen, um nicht als unseriös zu gelten. Da die Geisterjäger in der Lage sind, so gut wie jeden gruseligen Vorgang zu erklären, ist es umso unheimlicher, dass manch ein Phänomen doch ohne plausible Lösung bleiben muss.
