Still read today in over 2,000 newspapers across 55 countries, cartoonist Chic Young brought carefree flapper Blondie Boopadoop and her boyfriend Dagwood Bumstead to “the funny papers” in 1930. But it wasn’t until the two of them tied the knot three years later that Blondie became one of the most popular comics in the history of the medium. Chic Young's popular comic strip came to network TV in 1957. Blondie starred Arthur Lake as Dagwood (the same role he made famous in the movies and on radio) and added Pamela Britton in the title role. The series lasted for only 26 episodes but was successful in exploring many of the same themes that were ever-present in the comics and movies.
