הרומאים קראו ללוד "עיר האלוהים", אבל מאז עברו כמה אלפי שנים ונראה שאלוהים כבר לא גר כאן יותר. העיר הזאת, בלב ליבה של ישראל, 12 דקות נסיעה ממרכז תל אביב, 5 דקות מהדיוטי, היא מקום של נחשלות ייאוש ופחד. לוד, עיר שחיים בה יחד נוצרים מוסלמים ויהודים (75000 סה"כ), היא בבואה של חידלון ממשלתי ועירוני כאחד. בחמש עשרה השנים האחרונות התחלפו בה שמונה ראשי עיר, העירייה פשטה את הרגל והממשלה נאלצה למנות וועדה ממונה לנהל את חיי התושבים.
