조선 말기부터 일제강점기 3.1운동이 일어난 해인 1919년까지 다루었는데 일제시대를 배경으로 한 남녀의 사랑이야기에 치중했다는 지적을 받았다. 한편, KBS는 을 끝으로 대하드라마를 잠정 중단 했으며 그 이후 후속작으로 를 94년 7월 방영할 예정이었으나 제작비 절감 문제 때문에 무산됐고 자리에는 토요드라마 인간극장이 대체 편성됐다.
