Sifting through one average family's seemingly banal, iPhone-recorded, YouTube-uploaded home movies, director Dean Fleischer-Camp pieces together a darker tale of criminal activity and deliberate deception. Mixing cinema verité with a morality play, this documentary evokes much broader conversations about American materialism, consumerism, and capitalism. More importantly, it speaks to the "truthiness" of information on the web. In other words, what you see isn't always what you get.
